Elephants Crossing

Elephants Crossing is an intimate luxury tented camp in the Big Five Welgevonden Game Reserve — a place where safari feels both adventurous and deeply serene. Guests sleep in canvas tents, while surrounded by the sounds of the wild. Mornings begin with birdsong, evenings with firelight, and sometimes, in between, an elephant may wander by for a drink from a splash pool — a reminder that this is their world first.

The lodge’s signature is its Big Five game drives, led by guides who know the reserve like a living storybook.  Back at camp, beautifully appointed canvas tents blend luxury with the untouched beauty of their surroundings.

What sets Elephants Crossing apart is its extraordinary setting inside Welgevonden, where landscapes and wildlife encounters every day. Elephants Crossing uplifts the Waterberg community by employing and developing talented individuals from the region, often welcoming relatives of existing team members and strengthening family support networks. Together with its sister lodge, it donates food to a school in Vaalwater to support students during their study weekends — small contributions that help young people feel supported and hopeful. Elephants Crossing encourages mindful safari travel: slowing down, observing with respect, and leaving with a deeper understanding of the wild spaces that make South Africa remarkable
